Nafisa grew up in Queens NY, got some sort of degree in Ethnic Studies and Political Economy, worked in youth organizing/nonprofit, then moved to Kolkata for a fellowship. Somehow she ended up in Atlanta, getting a masters in development practice. So I don’t take photos unless my ngo asks, but these photos are a little insight into how the early days of SRI looked like. They’re screen-caps from film because I was documenting the SRI programme to use in next year’s village-outreach ect.
Side: Continuing on the Panchayat lock-in for the Khaal Digging Campaign (Irrigation Canal Digging), yesterday was bloody amazing. Before I explain or post photos from that, the conversations that started out of the SRI initiative (pictured in this post) were the foundations for the direct action stuff that’s been happening recently. Pretty standard.
Dolon (the NGO as.dir/my boss) hanging out during distribution
incentivising SRI: we make sure the quality of whatever non-hybrid seed the participant wants is delivered. Seeds in the immediate market folks buy from vary a lot so we went straight to the local seed dist. company and d id some quality check ourselves. Which is why my “office”/desk has been occupied for the past month. Ha.
I dont know everyones name. clearly, I know most people who do gender training because, well, duh, I can add to it. SRI is something entirely different. I plug-in for strategy, documentation and MIS and thigns like that. I’m supposed to publish an article for them on the farmer/BDO storm and I’ve been having nightmares about it. fear of publishing.
We were distributing seeds and filling in our “registration” and MIS (to chart the progress of the paddy ect).
ah yes yes, potash and boron.. yes, yes
didn’t mean to cut her head off. this is why i dont take photos unless asked, because it has the potential to reproduce national geographic.
Raticanda who is fulltime staff was a farmer and Aroti and Chobi are project staff and also farmers as in they plant what they eat for lunch. Chandana, who is a new project staff isn’t into SRI farming. HAHA. Maybe she’ll be interested after she sees the results.
